Amritsar, January 8- The SAD (Taksali) has decided to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections following a dinner meet among state AAP president and MP Bhagwant Mann, SAD (Taksali) president Ranjit Singh Brahmpura and his son Ravinder Singh Brahmpura at their residence in Amritsar last evening.
The SAD (Taksali), which had earlier announced not to contest the LS elections, has now changed its decision after getting a positive response from the “like-minded” leaders of other parties. Adopting the UP Government’s ‘mahagathbandhan’ pattern, the SAD (Taksali) leaders claimed they “are in alliance with like-minded parties”.
Ranjit Singh Brahmpura said it was jointly agreed to frame a policy to oust the Congress and the SAD from the state. “Mann came as an ambassador of AAP convener and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to frame a strategy for the Lok Sabha polls,” he said.
Ironically, referring to dissident AAP leaders such as Sukhpal Singh Khaira and Dr Dharamvira Gandhi, besides Bains brothers, he said, “If the ‘mahagathbandhan’ can work in UP, why shouldn’t we give it a try in Punjab? We already have an agenda to bring like-minded parties on one platform. They can contest the elections under their own party banners,” he said.
Reiterating not to contest the LS elections himself, he said, “It would be too early to say about who else would be from our side. But for sure, I would not be there.”
